An individual who spiked treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She explained the man went on to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities again.
She said the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
